SASSA SRD Phone Number Change: How to Change from Old to New

A lot of SRD beneficiaries have been asking us, about the process of changing from old to new SASSA SRD Phone number.

Updating your contact details with SASSA is crucial, especially if you’re receiving the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant. Your phone number is vital for receiving timely updates about your grants, potential issues, or changes in SASSA’s operations.

SASSA relies on your registered phone number to manage and communicate crucial information regarding your SRD grant.

If you have lost your sim card or changed your phone number recently, today, I want to show you how to update the phone number on your SRD grant.

Without wasting your time, let’s dive right into it.

Getting the Application ID

There are two methods to change the old cellphone number on your SRD grant, that is, using the application ID or without.

Ideally, you should have received your SRD application ID with the initial confirmation of your grant approval, but we know it’s now easy to just save this as contacts in your phone.

If you don’t have it, you can retrieve it using the form below.

Now that you have your grant application ID, please proceed to the next step of updating your phone number online.

On the next screen, you will be prompted to update your contact details, email, and cellphone number.

Select “change phone number”, then enter the new cellphone number and submit it for verification.

3. Provide Reason for the Change

You’ll be prompted to enter a reason for changing your phone number. This helps SASSA understand your needs and process your request effectively.

4. Verify New Phone Number

You will receive the OTP pin via SMS that you must enter on the next prompt to verify the new phone number.

And that should be it, your new SRD cellphone number is active and SASSA will send future comms to it.

How to Change Phone Number Without An Application ID

The problem with the above method is that if anyone knows your ID number and application ID, they can easily update your grant information to use their cellphone number to hijack your SRD grant.

Fraud is a big issue with the SASSA SRD grant, having received many queries and complaints about the grant being hacked, and original beneficiaries not getting the money as they should.

So we want to recommend you use this offline method, of updating your cellphone number without the application ID at the SASSA local branch.

They will help you, even if you don’t have access to your current cellphone number.

1. Visit Nearest SASSA Branch/Office

Manually go and visit your nearest SASSA office to present your case in person. Explain to them you want to change SRD phone number from old to new.

2. Verify Identity

Present your original ID book so the SASSA representative can verify your identity before proceeding with the change.

3. Complete the Update Form

Fill in the SRD phone number change form with the old and new cellphone numbers.

Clearly state the reasons for the change, so they can capture it correctly to avoid any delays in your next payment.

lastly, submit the form to the representative, which they will capture on their system and an SMS confirmation will be sent to your new number.
